Zwaardemaker-style olfactometer.

(Olfaktometer nach Zwaardemaker.)
Description: Zwaardemaker was, at that time, the expert in olfactory experimentation. This is a standard, if not very complex, device for doing olfactory thresholds. The apparatus consists of a short pipe, constructed from odorless kaolin (a major component of porcelain), which can be placed more or less deeply in the nasal cavity. To prevent outside odors, the scent- carrying capsules are held within a metal cylinder. The variation of the smell intensity occurs through offset of the metal pipe.
