von Frey-style sphygmograph.

(Sphygmanograph nach von Frey.)
Description: Device for providing a graphic display of heart pulses. This is the ancestor of the EKG and provides a similar record. The particular advantage of this device is that the "pelotte" (ball?) drives a steel shaft (U) directly, which causes the writing lever to be directly actuated. The curve traced by the writing lever directly reproduces the pulse wave without additional movement generated by the linkage. In addition, the pressure of the writing bristle on the kymograph drum can be regulated. (Expanded caption Copyright 1998, Edward J. Haupt)
