Chauveau- and Lortet-style Hemadrometer (blood velocity meter)

(Hämodromograph nach Chauveau und Lortet.)
Description: This, as No. 275, is a device for measuring blood flow velocity, through the use of a pendulum which reflects, through the length of the swing, the blood velocity. While the word "hemodrometer" is considered archaic, it can still be found in medical dictionaries. A pipe through which blood is conducted from a blood vessel contains a lightweight aluminum needle, which is deflected more when there is a higher blood velocity. The device also provides a scored circular rule on which the blood velocity can be read. (Expanded caption Copyright 1998, Edward J. Haupt)
