Description: The paper attached to a kymograph drum needed to be
covered with carbon (soot from a candle or gas flame before it
could be used. This device, apparently the version perfected by
von Frey, allows you to mount a drum, with paper, on an easily
rotatable shaft. The carbon coating was then provided by a glass
tube connected to the laboratory gas supply. (Expanded caption
