electromagnetic tuning fork (for direct time measurement)

(Elektromagnetische Stimmgabel (direkten Zeitschreibung))
Description: A platinum contact is made and broken by a solenoid to drive a tuning fork at 500 Hz. A clamp has been added to make it easy to position against a kymograph. The higher arm of the fork has a writing-bristle and traces a time base on a kymograph that can be used for calibration. This appears to carry out the measurement procedures used by Donders in the 1860s (Expanded caption Copyright 1998, Edward J. Haupt)
